Purpose
The team is responsible for reviewing, commenting on and recommending changes to the design specification for a new build metro in India. This role provides specialist civil engineering/structures/permanent way advice as an input to the Metro Owner and its professional engineers. Reviews proposed designs and specifications from a whole life perspective and supports inspection, testing and commissioning of relevant assets and systems
Duties and Responsibilities (What you need to do)
- Participate in the development of the Metro system design philosophy in order to ensure that the Operations and Maintenance perspective is allowed for – in particular identifying and recommending elements that will impact on safety,maintainability, customer service, environmental impacts and whole life costs
- Review proposed designs and specifications provided by the Metro Owner and its System Suppliers and comments/provides technical recommendations for improvements from the Operations and Maintenance perspective
- Develop asset management plans, and the associated asset maintenance plans for civil, structure, and permanent way (track) assets
- Participate in and provide inputs to the Metro Operations and Maintenance Risk Assessment and Management Planning including the Safety Case
- Identify tasks and their associated risks that will require to be undertaken by the civil/structure/permanent way maintenance organisation and develop inputs for Organisational Design, and to feed in to the Competency Management System Witness tests carried out by the system suppliers and participate in testing and commissioning activities in order to advise on the fitness for purpose of the relevant assets and the readiness for handover to the Operations and Maintenance company
- contribute to the wider Operations and Maintenance Project Team to ensure that the services provided to the client lead to delivery of a sustainable, world-class metro operation
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience (How you need to do)
- Understanding of metro systems and the interdependencies between the asset types – in particular track/structures/civil engineering with train operations and signalling and control systems
- Design standards and specifications applicable to Metro systems in regards to track/structures/civil engineering
- Risk assessment techniques and their application to the residual risk transfer between the design and build phase and the operations and maintenance phase of new build schemes
- Maintenance management system requirements and detailed appreciation of civil/structures/permanent way maintenance work specifications
- Understanding of failure management policies, plans and procedures in a Metro environment
- Principles of Environmental Management Systems
Skills (Technical & Behavioural)
- Qualified professional engineer
- Able to produce technical drawings and calculations
- Ability to influence others, and be respected by professional peers in other organisations
- Articulate and able to summarise reports and recommendations in both written form and when presenting verbally
- Numerate, able to undertake cost and benefit calculations and appraise options
Experience
- At least 5 years engineering and/or maintenance management experience with a rail or metro operation
- Preferably has international experience (i.e. experience of operations in more than one country) and is able to locate to Hyderabad for the duration of the assignment
Education & Qualification
- Educated to first degree level
- Qualified professional engineer-BE Civil
